The following course descriptions are for the Master of Divinity/ Bachelor
of Theology degree.
Old
Testament Studies
OTS 510.
HISTORY and SURVEY of the OLD TESTAMENT.
An introduction to the study of the Old Testament in terms of content,
method, and resources. Attention will be given to the authorship and
themes of each book as well as the “long line” of the historical
narrative.
OTS 512.
HISTORY and SURVEY of the OLD TESTAMENT I. A continuation of OTS 510.
OTS 514.
THEOLOGY of the OLD TESTAMENT II.
A study of the nature and formation of the Old Testament canon with
historical survey of the approaches to biblical theology. Special attention
will be given to the progression of redemption in the covenant and the
law.
New Testament Studies
NTS 516.
HISTORY and SURVEY to the NEW TESTAMENT I - An introduction to the study
of the New Testament in terms of content, method, and resources. The
course work will include a study of the historical. critical and literary
problems form various books with attention given to the theological
patterns of thought in the New Testament.
NTS 518.
HISTORY and SURVEY to the NEW TESTAMENT II. A continuation of NTS 518.
NTS 520.
THEOLOGY of the NEW TESTAMENT.
An examination of the theological patterns of thought in the New Testament.
Special emphasis will be given to the theological dogmas in the various
writings of the Apostles.
Biblical
Language Studies
GRK 522.
GREEK.
Greek grammar and vocabulary with readings from the New Testament. All
students are required to take this course at the beginning of their
first year of study. Selected New Testament books are studied with an
emphasis in the practice of hermeneutical and exegetical skills in a
systematic fashion. Work on Greek syntax and a look at the various reference
works helpful in the Greek languages are included.

HEBREW.
A study of orthography, morphology, and syntax with various exercises
in translation. A reading course with special attention given to grammar

SYS 526.
HERMENEUTICS.
A study into the principles of the science of interpretation, its history
and its methods. This course emphasizes the use of the covenantal, historical,
and grammatical settings for interpretation.
SYS 610.
SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY I. An examination of the doctrine of God, his nature,
existence,
and attributes, decrees, creation, and divine providence.
SYS 612.
SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY II.
An examination of the understanding or the role of Scripture in the
life of the Church. Special attention will be paid to the Anglican understanding
of the relationship between Old and New Testaments.
SYS 614.
SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY III.
An examination of the doctrine of Man, his origin, sinful nature, redemptive
state, and glorification. The course will also cover the doctrine of
Salvation dealing with calling, election, regeneration, justification,
sanctification, etc.
SYS 616.
SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY IV.
An examination of the doctrine or the Church, her power, purpose, offices,
ministry, and Sacraments.
SYS 618.
SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY V.
An examination of the doctrine of Last Things. The course will compare
and contrast from an historical and theological vantage point the pre-,
a-, and post-millennial positions.
SYS 620
SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY VI.
An independent research project into an aspect of Anglican theology.
Apologetics
Studies
PHL 622.
CHRISTIAN ETHICS.
A survey of the major Christian answers to the questions concerning
the ideals of the Christian life from Biblical times to the present.
Attention is given to the proper use of Biblical Law, and an intensive
study into the current problems of society and their historical background.
PHL 624.
CHRISTIAN APOLOGETICS.
An intensive study into the methods and strategy for defending the faith.
Special emphasis is given to the presuppositional method of apologetics.
PHL 730.
CHRISTIANITY and THE ARTS.
A study of the use or the arts in Christian worship and in Christian
culture. Special emphasis will be placed on the use of music in worship.

History and Theology Studies
AHT 626.
ANGLICAN HISTORY and DISCIPLINE.
An introduction to the distinctive theology and practices of Churches
with the Anglican tradition. The student will be brought to a full understanding
of the doctrine and discipline of the portion of the Anglican Communion
in which he is to be ordained.

HCH 714.
ECCLESIASTICAL HISTORY I.
An overview of the history of the Church from the early Church Fathers
through Post-Reformation Christianity.
HCH 716.
ECCLESIASTICAL HISTORY II.
A continuation of HCH 714.
HCH 718.
ECCLESIASTICAL HISTORY III.
An examination of the Ecumenical Creeds and early Church Councils in
light of both ancient and modern theological and christological heresies.
HCH 720.
ECCLESIASTICAL HISTORY IV.
An examination of the major soteriological controversies. Studies will
include St. Augustine’s response to the Pelagian and semi-Pelagian
heresies. Also covered will be the Reformational understanding of justification
in light of the corruptions of Medieval theology.
Anglican
Pastoral Ministry Studies
APM 720.
PASTORAL MINISTRY.
A study into the nature of the pastoral office. Special emphasis will
be placed on the nature of Anglican pastoral ministry in comparison
to the ministry of pastors within other ecclesiastical traditions.
APM 722.
PASTORAL COUNSELING.
A study in the basic principles or Christian counseling. Special attention
will be given to the biblical nature of personal conflicts in the lives
of God’s people.
APM 724.
HOMILETICS.
An introduction to the basic principles of composition, delivery, and
types of sermons. Special attention will be paid to the Anglican practice
of lectionary preaching.
APM 726.
SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN.
A study of self-pastoring skills. The student will be taught how to
pastor himself and his own family in order to build the foundation for
effective pastoral ministry.
APM 728.
DIACONAL RESEARCH PAPER.
A course in which the student is encouraged to fully research and develop
an effective Diaconal ministry. This is a hands-on course in which the
principles which have been learned in class are put into practice.
APM 730.
ANGLICAN SPIRITUALITY.
A study of the spiritual development in the life of an Anglican Minister.
APM 732.
PASTORAL PRACTICUM.
This is a planned program designed for the prospective minister to participate
in pastoral field work. Each practicum will be tailored to meet the
needs of each student.
